Bat Survey - Protected Species

Ecology

We provide a wide range of ecological advice and practical help underpinned by years of extensive field experience. Whilst our concern is the conservation of biodiversity, we pride ourselves on providing practical ways of integrating the needs of wildlife and other land uses.

Phase 1 and 2 Habitat Surveys
Our experience of Phase 1 and 2 habitat surveys, the basic building block of ecological surveys, is extensive and covers the majority of UK habitat types from montane to coastal.

Protected Species Surveys
Surveys are carried out by fully licensed and trained experts and range from major Environmental Impact Assessments through to assessment of farm buildings for conversion. We prepare realistic mitigation packages and provide practical assistance in installing measures such as fencing to safeguard protected species. Species covered include:

  • Bats
  • Badgers
  • Water voles
  • Otters
  • Dormice
  • Birds
  • Reptiles and amphibians, including great crested newts

Habitat Creation, Restoration and Management
We have been involved in habitat management for many years, including a number of SSSIs and other protected sites, and have expertise in particular with woodlands, flower-rich grasslands and ponds and lakes.

Woodlands
Arbor Vitae has been involved in producing management plans for several thousands of acres of ancient woodland and has developed a specialism in this field, in association with its other forestry interests.

GPS/GIS surveys and mapping
A complete mapping and map production service is carried out by our GIS and CAD specialists.
